Professor Shashanka Mohan Bose, former senior professor and head of surgery of PGI, Chandigarh, is a well known and eminent surgeon of India. Presently working as a senior consultant in surgery, Professor Bose attends to patients of breast cancer who visit him from far and wide. He also devotes a significant part of his time towards creating awareness about cancer and delivering audio-visual lectures on it.
Professor Bose completed his Masters in surgery from PGI, Chandigarh, and has been honoured with fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow, American College of Surgeons, American College of Gastroenterology, International College of Surgeons, Indian National Medical Academy, Indian Medical Association IMA, and Punjab Science Academy.
He has received higher training in surgery from some of the top medical institutes of the world namely, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York Royal Postgraduate Medical School, London and Kings College, London.
Professor Bose is a blend of excellence in patient care, teaching, and research. He has delivered lectures worldwide and has been a visiting professor in several foreign universities. In the year 2002, he was elected the President of Association of Surgeons of India, an organisation of professional surgeons with more than 18,000 active members. He has also held the post of the President of Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology, and President of Chandigarh Surgical Society.
He has been the recipient of Dr. B. C. Roy National Award twice, conferred by the Government of India for Eminent Medical Teacher and for Excellence in Medical Research. He was recently conferred his third national award for Outstanding efforts in Science and Technology Communication, by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. He is the recipient of the Pandalai Award the highest award conferred by the Association of Surgeons of India and has also received numerous awards from surgical societies of Indian states, IMA, WHO, Union for International Cancer Control Switzerland, etc.
He is on the editorial boards of many scientific journals, has edited books, and has contributed several chapters in various books.
Over 120 scientific articles written by him have been published worldwide. Dr. Bose is a person with multifarious interests his health education book Cancer has been published by a Government of India organisation, and has been translated in seven languages.
He has contributed numerous health education articles in various newspapers and magazines.
